Overview
If your organization has Auto-Created Meals and Breaks enabled, eligible meals and breaks are automatically added when you create or edit employee shifts.
The number, duration, and placement of meals and breaks are determined by your organization's configured Meal & Break Planning rule set.
Managers can review and adjust the automatically created meals and breaks as needed.
Note: Auto-Created Meals and Breaks must be enabled by an administrator in Above Store Console. For more information, see HS ASC: Meal and Break Planning: Auto-Created Meals and Breaks.
How Auto-Created Meals and Breaks Work
When you create or edit an eligible shift, HotSchedules automatically inserts the required meals and breaks based on your organization's Meal & Break Planning rules.
The meals and breaks become part of the shift and can be modified if scheduling adjustments are needed.
Edit Auto-Created Meals and Breaks
After meals and breaks have been created, you can make adjustments directly from the Shift Editor.
Depending on your permissions and your organization's configuration, you can:
- Modify the start and end times.
- Adjust the duration of a meal or break.
- Reposition meals or breaks within the shift.
- Remove a meal or break if necessary.
For additional information about editing shifts, see HS Scheduling: Creating and Editing Shifts.
View Meals and Breaks in SmartView
Switching to SmartView provides an easier way to review automatically created meals and breaks across the schedule.
SmartView can help managers quickly identify meal and break placement, especially when reviewing multiple employee schedules or making scheduling adjustments.
Remove an Auto-Created Meal or Break
If a meal or break needs to be removed, select it in the shift editor and press the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard.
Note: The ability to remove meals or breaks depends on your organization's Meal & Break Planning configuration and your user permissions.
Copy Meal and Break Edits
When copying a schedule to another week, you can also copy any manual changes that were made to automatically created meals and breaks.
To include these changes:
- Open Copy Schedule select the schedules to copy
- Enable Copy Meal/Break Edits select Copy.
This preserves any meal or break adjustments that were made to the original schedule.
