Overview
The Geo-Fence feature allows organizations to control where employees can clock in and out using WebClock. When enabled, employees must be within a defined distance of the work location to successfully record a punch.
Geo-Fence helps organizations improve punch accuracy by ensuring employees are physically present at or near the workplace before clocking in or out.
This feature is commonly used when employees access WebClock from their mobile devices.
How Geo-Fence Works
A Geo-Fence radius is established around the location where employees are permitted to clock in and out.
- The radius is measured in meters
- The default Geo-Fence radius is 100 meters
- The radius can be adjusted upon request
When an employee attempts to use WebClock, their device location is compared to the configured Geo-Fence radius.
Within the Geo-Fence
If the employee is located within the configured radius:
- Clock-in and clock-out actions function normally
- No additional action is required
Outside the Geo-Fence
If the employee is outside the configured radius:
- The punch attempt is blocked
- A manager override is required before the employee can continue
Benefits of Geo-Fence
Geo-Fence allows organizations to:
- Support employee clock-in and clock-out from mobile devices
- Reduce inaccurate punch times
- Help ensure employees are on-site before recording a punch
- Reduce missed punches caused by waiting for shared devices or terminals
- Improve overall timekeeping accuracy
Manager Overrides
When an employee attempts to clock in outside of the configured Geo-Fence radius, WebClock prompts for a manager override.
Depending on site configuration, managers may be able to authorize the punch using:
- HotSchedules credentials
- A 6-digit Manager Authorization Code (PIN)
Manager overrides should only be used when appropriate according to company policy.
Enable Geo-Fence
Geo-Fence is an optional WebClock feature.
If your organization would like to enable Geo-Fence or modify the configured radius, contact your account representative or Customer Support.
