FAQs
What are E-Verify errors and why do I receive them for some employees?
- After submitting the I-9 to E-Verify, E-Verify will return an error to our system if there is a technical issue or, more commonly, an issue with the data entered on the I-9. These errors can be caused by a large variety of issues, but they are typically in reference to the way the I-9 is formatted.
- If an E-Verify case is stuck in a Processing Status please reach out to our Support Team for assistance with this error.
How should the I-9 be formatted to avoid receiving an error?
- Before submitting the I-9 to E-Verify, review both sections of the I-9 and check for the following:
- Names should not include any special characters. This includes hyphens, accent marks, and tildes (~).
- Example: Renée Smith-Johnson should be Renee Smith Johnson on the I-9.
- Make sure that the Alien Registration (I-94) number on Section 1 of the I-9 is nine digits long.
- If the employee's Alien Registration number is 8 digits long, add a zero to the beginning of the number.
- On Section 2 of the I-9, the I-766 number should be 3 letters and 10 numbers (Example: AAA0000000000).
- Names should not include any special characters. This includes hyphens, accent marks, and tildes (~).
