Overview
Sometimes an employee's records may show up with no Social Security Number (SSN) on Section 1 of the I-9 and subsequently no E-Verify Case.
Without an SSN, the E-verify Case will not automatically be submitted even if you completed Section 2 of the I-9.
The solution to these scenarios is explained below.
SSN Missing from Section 1 of the I-9
If the Social Security Number (SSN) is missing from Section 1 of the I-9 form, the employee may have ticked the box in Fig.1 where an SSN wouldn't be required to proceed with the I-9.
The system will not create an E-Verify case from the completed I-9 until that employee adds their social security number to section 1 of the I-9.

Notify the Employee to fill in the SSN
- Go to Manage I-9 Documentation
- Search the Employee name in the search bar
- This will display the employee, as well as their status (see Fig.2)
- If the employee shows SSN Needed the manager can select Actions > Resend SSN Request (see Fig.3)

How the Employee fills in the SSN
Once the manager resends the SSN request, the employee will receive an email with a URL (see Fig.4) that directs the employee to a page where the SSN can be completed (see Fig.5).
Please note: The employee will need to log in to PeopleMatter to enter the SSN.
