Overview
In Activity-Based Scheduling, not just employee shifts but contractor and open shifts can be scheduled. Contractor shifts are shifts that are being fulfilled by agency staff. Open shifts are shifts that are required shifts but have not yet been assigned to an employee. These can be published for employees to request to work through the My Schedule app.
Creating Employee Shifts
- To create new shifts for employees, select an employee row from the Daily or Weekly Schedule page
The Shift pop-up box will be displayed.
- Enter the shift start and end times - either key the shift times manually or use the clock icon and select the times in hours and minutes
- If required, enter additional shift information such as Breaks or Notes
- Select the blue Save button once complete

Creating Open Shifts
Open shifts can be created for any role in the department from any open shift row. Once a shift is created, it can be published or saved to be published later
Publishing an open shift will send a notification to any employees who are able to work it. This is determined through the job role. Employees working at the location on the job role as their primary role or multiple employment will receive the notification. If an employee is already scheduled to work and their scheduled shift overlaps with the open shift, they will not receive the open shift notification.
The ‘eye’ icon indicates that the shift has been published and can be viewed in the My Schedule app by any employees who can work it – see Fig.3.
The ‘eye’ icon with a line through it indicates that the shift has not yet been published and cannot yet be viewed in the My Schedule app – see Fig.3.
Open shifts are created in the same way as employee shifts and can be optionally displayed within the demand graph via an organisation setting.
