Overview
In Activity-Based Scheduling, variable labour demand is calculated through Labour Standards. A variable Labour Standard calculates the number of hours allowed to complete certain tasks within a business. The number of hours allowed for the day is calculated based on an Activity Driver value. All Variable Labour Standards are linked to Activity Drivers.
For users to be able to create and edit Labour Standards, the user-level permissions as shown in Fig.1 will need to be applied.
- Go to Scheduling> Settings > User Levels > Edit User Levels
- Tick the box against Create and Edit Labour Standards and Save the changes

Creating a new Variable Labour Standard
- With the permission applied, go to Settings > Activity Based Scheduling> Labour Standards > Create New

- Populate the following fields:
- Name - name of the Labour Standard
- Type – select Variable
- Allow Contractor to fulfil labour demand - if checked the contractor row can be selected for this role in this department
- Role - select the job role which the labour standard is being created for. Job Roles can only be linked to a single Labour Standard per Location
- Sessions- select the session(s) that the labour requirement will be generated for
- Applicable Days - select the days that the labour standard will be active. If none are ticked the standard will apply to all 7 days by default
- Activity Driver - select the Activity Driver - calculated ones are suffixed with (C)
- Day Offset - this will determine which values are used from the Activity Driver. None will use the current day. Previous Day uses the previous day’s values and Next Day will use the values from the next day to calculate the labour standard
- Minimum Hours - number of hours allowed before any additional allowed hours
- Base Activity - only when this value is exceeded are additional hours allowed
- Hours Increment - the number of hours added when base activity is increased by the productivity value
- Productivity - when the base activity is exceeded by this value, 1 additional hour is allowed
- Max Hours - the total number of hours allowed for this labour standard
- Notes - allows the user to record notes against the labour standard for audit of changes
- Once all fields are populated select Preview to view a list of the Activity Driver values and hours which will be created for that labour standard
