Changes have been made to the I-9 workflow experience for managers and new hires within both PeopleMatter’s BETA and Legacy UI.
I-9 PDF Changes
The document published by the USCIS in 2023 provided a few key updates:
- Section 1 and 2 are consolidated on a single page.
- The Preparer/Translator and Reverification/Rehire sections moving from the main body of the I-9 to Supplement A and B forms.
- Instructions were reduced from 15 to eight pages.
- Select data fields, including those for employer address, will be consolidated into a singular field.
- Verbiage modifications that include employee attestation and adoption of the term “noncitizen” instead of “alien.”
- The addition of a check box for “alternate document examination” for employers conducting remote verification. Please note, that this option is only available to hiring sites who participate in E-Verify.
These first four changes are evident in the physical copy of the I-9 document. As managers and new hires view a completed I-9 or download a copy of a blank I-9, the updated document will be presented throughout both experiences.
The updated version is linked here.

Update for Locations Using E-Verify
- The addition of a check box for “alternate document examination” for employers conducting remote verification. Please note, that this option is only available to hiring sites that participate in E-Verify. This aligns with DHS’s new procedure for remote verification, which was released concurrently with these I-9 form updates
