Overview
Minimum Shift is a Pay Exception rule that can be configured within a Rule Set in the Above Store Console (ASC).
Minimum shift requirements may also be referred to as reporting pay, reporting time pay, shift minimum pay, or minimum call-in pay, depending on the jurisdiction or policy.
These requirements generally apply when an employee reports to work but is provided fewer hours than expected or required under applicable rules. Depending on the jurisdiction and configuration, additional pay may be required when a scheduled shift is shortened after the employee reports for duty.
The rule is designed for situations where an employee's shift is shortened by the business after the employee reports to work. It is not intended for situations where an employee voluntarily leaves early, such as for a personal emergency or at their own request.
- For details on creating, editing, and assigning Pay Exception Rule Sets in general, refer to this article.
- This functionality can be configured regardless of whether a specific jurisdiction is listed in the compliance coverage section below.

Minimum Shift Rule Configuration
The Minimum Shift rule determines whether additional pay applies when an employee reports to work but works less than the configured minimum shift.
Configure the following settings:
-
A - Minimum Shift: Defines the minimum shift length used to determine when the rule applies. If an employee reports to work and works less than the configured number of hours, the selected pay calculation may apply.
- Example: If the minimum shift is set to 4 hours and an employee reports to work but works only 2 hours, the configured Minimum Shift pay calculation may apply.
-
B - Pay Calculation: Select how the additional pay is calculated when the employee works less than the configured minimum shift:
- Percentage of scheduled time - Pays the configured percentage of the scheduled shift, subject to the selected minimum and maximum number of hours. For example, the rule may pay 50% of the scheduled shift, but no less than two hours and no more than four hours.
- Actual time worked plus difference to minimum - Pays the employee for actual time worked plus the additional time needed to reach the configured minimum shift. Select whether the additional time is paid at Minimum Wage, Staff Shift Rate, or Regular Rate of Pay.
- C - Include Salaried Employees: Select this option to include salaried employees when applying the rule.
- D - Earning Code: Maps the applicable pay adjustment to an earning code for payroll export. This field is optional; if no earning code is configured, the standard default earning code is applied. Customers should confirm the appropriate earning code with their payroll team.
