UK Legislation Road Map 2026-2027 | What We're Building and Why

    Hi,

The current development activity is focused on the foundational elements required to support the Employment Rights Act, such as Worker Type Classification and Shift Change Logging. Whilst these are clearly important prerequisites, we note that some of the key compliance functionality itself remains classified as "Backlog", including:
    • Guaranteed Hours Calculations

    • Shift Compensation Calculations

    • Statutory Leave enhancements

    • Various payroll and compliance reporting elements

From a customer perspective, these backlog items represent the areas that ultimately determine compliance with the legislation and therefore create the greatest operational and legal risk.

We appreciate that some aspects remain dependent on final Government regulations; however, given the significance of these changes for hospitality operators, we would welcome further visibility on:
    • The anticipated delivery timelines for Guaranteed Hours functionality.

    • The anticipated delivery timelines for Shift Compensation functionality.

    • Whether these developments are expected to be available ahead of the legislation becoming enforceable.

    • Whether Fourth expects customers to operate interim manual processes whilst functionality is being developed.

    • Whether pilot programmes or early-access testing will be available to customers.

Thanks for the feedback. We completely understand that functionality such as Guaranteed Hours, Shift Compensation and the related compliance capabilities are the items customers are ultimately most concerned about.

Whilst these currently appear as Backlog items on the roadmap, they are not waiting to be considered. These areas are already being actively scoped and designed in parallel with the foundational work that is currently in development. The Worker Type Classification and Shift Change Logging features are important building blocks that will support the eventual compliance solutions.

Our objective is to have customers supported in advance of the legislation becoming enforceable. However, as some of the key details remain subject to secondary legislation, our approach may involve an initial release that enables customers to meet their obligations, potentially with some manual processes, followed by further enhancements once the final regulations and implementation details are confirmed. This allows us to balance readiness for legislative deadlines with the flexibility to adapt as Government guidance evolves.

As plans mature and more legislative detail becomes available, we will continue to share timings and opportunities for customers to engage with and provide feedback on the proposed solutions.
