Development has been carried out to allow access to the Payroll module in the People System from Chrome, Firefox and Safari (desktop and mobile versions).

Reason for the Change
To allow customers the flexibility of using a browser other than Internet Explorer.
All Payroll customers.
As of July 6th, 2017 the Payroll module will be supported in Public Preview with Chrome, Firefox and Safari
The login screen’s technical requirements section will be updated to reflect this
If a user logs in with Chrome, Firefox or Safari they will only see the HR, Rota and Payroll modules (if they already have access to them). Users will not see the other modules that they have access to until Fourth supports them. Users will still need to use Internet Explorer to access the other modules
People System with Internet Explorer uses an ActiveX Plugin (Active Reports) that provides onscreen access to certain reports. ActiveX is not supported on Chrome, Firefox or Safari, so when users visit report pages using those browsers they will only get the option to download the report in CSV format. See Fig.1
This is a current issue for reports that are designed for onscreen use. Fourth is looking into options that will allow for onscreen reporting in non-Internet Explorer browsers. Customers will be notified via further release notes as and when these become available

Fourth supports and tests on the latest 2 versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Other browsers may work with limited functionality but it is strongly advised to not use them
People System is not optimised for use on small screens. If accessed from a mobile phone it will work, but the zoom in/out function will be necessary to clearly see elements on the screen
If trying to run a report on an OS or Android device and the Creating Report for Download page pauses for an excessively long period, check that pop-ups are allowed in settings. The default setting for Safari and Chrome on iOS (and Chrome on Android) is to block pop-ups
