Overview
Statutory holidays are paid days off that employees are legally entitled to. The specific days that are considered statutory holidays vary from country to country, and can often be days that many hospitality venues are open for business. Christmas Day, for example.
Employers are not required to give employees paid time off for statutory holidays (though most do offer it and do not deduct it from employees' holiday allowances). If an employee works on a statutory holiday, they are typically expected to be paid at a higher rate or earn a day off in lieu.
This article describes the process of creating, setting, and assigning statutory holidays in HR and payroll.
