Overview
The error 'Failed to retrieve a list of employees' in the Rota module is directly related to duplicated/controversial holidays. This article will show how this can be resolved.
Error example
Fig.1 below is an example of the error displayed when following the below path:
- Go to Rota > Rota’s > View Rota’s > Select a Location, Status, Date from / to > Select a Rota > Select a Division

Noting the following
- Location
- Division
- Date From
- Date To
Navigating to the solution
You will need to now find the holiday causing this error. To do so please navigate to the path shown in Fig.2.
- HR > Holidays and Absences > Employee Holidays

- Fill in the form by entering the location, division and the dates from and to
Once run you will get a list of holidays.
Duplicate holidays
The most common example of the issue is caused by a duplication of the holiday. This can be found by looking at names and dates and finding a case where the name and the date shows up twice (they will be next to each other also).
- On the left of the name, you can see a checkbox which would be under the delete column. Once checked, select the Delete button at the bottom of the page

Contradicting holidays
Fig.4 below shows two holidays by the same employee on the same day. They have both been authorised, however, the Yes indicates unpaid, and the blank indicates paid. This is what would be known as a contradictory holiday.
- On the left of the name, you can see a checkbox which would be under the delete column. Once checked, select the Delete button at the bottom of the page
The deletion can be actioned on either the paid or unpaid holiday and this can be different in each situation.
