What’s Changing?

Favourites on marketplace are currently stored on the device being used. This means that the same user can have different lists of favourites on many different devices. We are changing marketplace so that favourites are stored centrally and the user will see the same list of favourites from whichever device they use.

The Migration Path

After the changes have been deployed, the migration of favourites will happen automatically on login to each device. The migration ensures that the final list of favourites is the complete set (without duplicates) of all products stored on all devices. Any product which the user no longer has access to via a valid catalogue will not be migrated. 

If for any intermittent reason (e.g. loss of internet connection) the migration fails then the system will attempt to migrate the favourites at the next login to the device. Hence there could be occasions where the user managed to login to the system, the migration failed, and they had an empty list of favourites. In this case the user should log out and log in again. If the migration continues to fail, they should contact the Fourth service desk. 
 

Reason for the Change

User feedback suggested that users preferred having a single list of favourites which was available across all their devices.
