If the grading is for reference and reporting only, the best option is to record it using a Comment Category (e.g. Level 0 – C-suite, Level 1 – Director). This can be stored on the employee record and reported on but won’t trigger any system behaviour.
 
Job Grades could also be used, but they apply to everyone with the same job title and don’t link to benefits.
