SSP - Wait Days

Hi Sharon - thanks for your question.  If an employee or a household or 'bubble' household member of an employee shows any corona virus symptoms, they should self isolate and would be entitled to SSP from day 1 of the absence.  For any other illness, the 3 waiting days would still apply and SSP is due from day 4 of the absence.

and just to double check this is only if they are off for more than the normal 3 wait days , if for example they took 2 days off for a test which came back negative they would not be paid SSP for those 2 days?

Hi Sharon - Covid 19 related absences will qualify for SSP from day 1.  I believe your example would also qualify from day 1.  For further guidance please use the link to gov.uk below

Hi

I have read the article ans I am still not clear.  Can you confirm if someone was off for 2 days only they would not be paid SSP for those 2 days ?

Nicola Kibble

Hi Sharon - if an employee was off for a Covid 19 related illness or a suspected Covid 19 illness, they will be entitled to SSP from day 1 of the absence so in your example, they WOULD get SSP for the 2 days.  If the absence is NOT a Covid 19 related illness they will be entitled to SSP from day 4 of the absence.  Hope that helps.
