The Documents Seen box MUST be selected if there are any additional payments owed to the employee ie through SSP or Company Sick Pay (if eligible)

 

Every company has their own processes and absence types can be configured to merely report the absence, or deduct a days pay, depending on how the Absence Type has been configured.

 

If users who are creating the absence are unsure as to whether an additionally payment is owed I would suggest always selecting the Documents seen box, or turning off the option at the HR level and making it a Payroll task only.

 

A very good report to run to ensure that the Documents Seen box is being used correctly is the Absence Analysis Report. If you run this as a CSV file, it will show you if a payment was owed, and if the Doc seen box was ticked on the Absence. It can be found in HR>Reports>View Reports. I would always suggest running the date created from field to the beginning of the year to capture all the absences that may have been created in advance of the Date From.
