Do you include holidays days on the rota when ticking days in the absence box ?

Hi @Sharon Harkins,

This is a great question! Are you talking about the days included within the 7 day working pattern from the first day of absence? As absences can not be taken on holidays and vise versa.

If so, for salaried employees they will not be impacted if there is a holiday day as they will be paid the same weekly total regardless. For your flexible rate employees, as holidays are part of their working entitlement, and would be a payment for a day that they would be otherwise working, it would be advisable to include this as part of their days usually worked pattern.

I hope this helps,

@Cristabelle Metcalfe  Hi, I dont think I have explained enough. I am really trying to understand for ticking boxes when the system is working out wait days for SSP.

So my example would be if a person had 3 days Hol (Mon Tue Wed) then called in sick for Fri / Sat shift

When I enter the absence for them would I tick all 5 days as qualifying days for the absence ie Mon - Fri ?

Sharon Harkins

@Cristabelle Metcalfe  but is it not the case that fourth would use the days worked in the full week (even those before the absence) to calculate the fraction of SSP to be paid after the wait days have passed ?

Hi {@005D000000AK8tjIAD} ,

The absence should be logged from the first day that the employee calls in sick, and can be a day off. If the employee said they were sick from the first day of the holiday, you can choose to cancel the holiday and instead create an absence for it, giving them the holiday back. these would be days normally worked and would count towards waiting days.

However, if the employee wishes to keep their holiday, their first day of absence is the day that they would usually return, and waiting days should be calculated going forward, ie from the first day they called in sick. In this instance the first day of absence is recorded and you would count the preceding 7 days from the FIRST day they called in sick, discounting any days off.

I have included two links that walk through V2 Absence in a bit more depth for you.

Does this help?

Hi,

Apologies for the delay.

The system will only start calculating the SSP from the FIRST day of the absence added, it will then work out from which days are ticked if and SSP is owed within the 7 days after discounting the three waiting days. So if 4 days were ticked in total, the employee would be entitled to one day. The days of the week on the absence screen are treated as a rolling rota, so you would tick the first day of absence and count forward, ticking only the days scheduled (or booked as holiday).

In the instance below, the employee called in sick on the Wednesday (19th) so that is the first day ticked. They were then off for the next three days, and were next scheduled to work the Sunday and the following Monday and Tuesday, these are the 7 days ticked. SSP will calculate 1 day to pay out, as the other 3 working days are waiting days.

The articles I included in the last post explain this in more detail, if that would be useful?

Alternatively, if this still does not answer your query due to specifics within your own business practices, perhaps booking onto an Ask Fourth Session may be of benefit? The sessions are completely free and can go into to how to best utilise our solution to meet your needs.

Have a lovely day,
