Holiday accrual whilst furloughed?

Great question - We can confirm that any employee's whose status is set to 'Furlough' will still accrue holiday allowance as usual.

Holiday accruing does depend on the holiday status of the employees, whether full time, flexible or casual. ACAS guidance is that an employee should still accrue holiday whilst on furlough.

If we still want to go ahead and stop holiday accruing, will their be a way in the solution that we can achieve this?

Hi Aine,
Unfortunately the system can't stop an employee accruing holiday if they are still employed. The only exception to this are employees on the 'casual' status as their holiday will accrue only when hours worked are submitted to payroll.

Will casuals accrue holidays while on furlough and if so, how can we calculate that?

Hi Laura,
In answer to your question about 'Casual' employees accruing holiday in the system, our casual status was designed for true casual employees who do not work on a regular basis, and their holiday will accrue in hours (12.07% of hours worked) when a schedule is submitted to payroll. If your casual employees are furloughed, they will not have any hours coming through the rotas and therefore no holiday hours will accrue for them. If we need to upload any hours they would have accrued once they are back to work then we can help with a casual holiday upload.

Can we outline best practice if we do not wish employees to accrue holiday? Should their employee status be changed or holiday allowance manually overridden at a later date?

Hi Aine,
Unfortunately we don't have best practice around this as the system is set up to accrue holiday for current employees, whether on the furlough status or not. We can suggest the customer keeps track of this through reporting- the Holiday Year To Date report can be run choosing a specific date to see holiday accrued and taken.
If there is a need to adjust any holiday in the future, then we may be able to facilitate that through uploads.
