I am aware that we have the holiday unpaid option however this causes issues as paid or unpaid they show the holidays show the same on the rota page.
What would be your suggestion for staff to clearly mark in advance on the rota if they have a day they cannot work - As all rotas start with a status off off we would be looking for something that shows a different word on the face of the rota.
I have been advised that we would be unable to create a shift type as it has to have a time amount allocated to it ? any suggestion would be gratefully received.

If you select the holiday day on the rota it will bring up a pop up box which will tell you if the holiday is paid or unpaid, although we would not suggest using holiday 'unpaid' days to mark absences in the business, rather set up an absence type for authorised unpaid days.

You are also correct that shift types do need hours to function, if it is a reoccurring day they cannot work and then you could use the unavailability in employee details. If the days do flex this would not be suitable for what you are suggesting.
