As a manager, I would love to designate a $1 or $2 of a kitchen guys pay to be called 'On Time Pay!'. Another words if they showed up on time for that whole pay period they got that full $1 per hour. If they were late 25% of the time, they only get $0.75 per hour. (Note, this only works for employees above minimum wage.)
I previously worked at another big box store that used a point system for employees being late or NCNS's. Points were automatically deducted from the employees total based on their actual clock in times. They gave a 5 minute window to clock in to be considered on time.
If you would add a couple fields to the employee logs, Hot Schedules could make a point system that is attached to the journal entry for the staff member. That way when we document employee x was late, it deducts 25 points from their total of a 100. If they miss a shift maybe the points are 100 so they completely loose there on time pay for that pay period.
On the positive side of this, you could also add points for things like an employee picks up a shift you needed covered.
The math would be set up like so for my store. Each employee gets 100 points in a pay period. If they are late, they loose 25 points. If they miss a shift, but get it excused(like a sick day), they loose a 50 points. If they completely miss a shift and don't call about it, they loose 100 points. So if they called in sick (excused absence) and were late once inside of a pay period, they would be down to 25 points or 25% of their 'On Time Pay' for the period.
Settings you would need:
- A way to set points for each offense in the staff journal log book.
- A way to set the number of days the offense stays on their point deduction.
- A way to set the total points that is the default for each store.
- A report that can be run for each pay period summarizing the results.
- A notice sent to the employee if points are deducted.
I think there is a screen like this to configure the staff journal, but I don't see it currently, but you could add the extra fields here.
