MacromatiX 2016.1
The document communicates the major new features and changes in the 2016.1 MacromatiX Release. It also references issues that were addressed during this release.
2. About This Release
The 2016.1 release includes substantive changes to improve the MacromatiX user experience. A few of the release highlights for the MacromatiX Management System (MMS) and MxConnect (MxC) are detailed below.
2.1 MacromatiX Management System – Highlights
MacromatiX is a cloud-based operating system that provides operational efficiency, cost controls and real-time visibility into restaurant operations that keep the manager in front of customers and focused on their experience, rather than stuck in the back office staring at spreadsheets. Get instant insight into inventory and financials with in-depth, down-to-the item reporting. Gain access to sales data, gross profit, cost of goods sold, loss prevention and exception management with the ability to report down the item level at individual stores. With Macromatix, food is fresher, waste is reduced, and gross profits are increased.
Enhancements to the MacromatiX Management System (MMS) modules this release included:
- A workflow enhancement linking workflow with the business day
- Electronic Journal Enhancement – the Transaction Viewer includes seconds in the time stamp
- The ability to hide invalid/unused culture codes on specific pages
- Business Intelligence security measures for non-admin users
- Microsoft Edge Support
- The prevention of duplicates on the Scheduled Order Import
Significant date functionality enhancements have been committed so that dates display consistently. Therefore, we recommend that client training documentation be reviewed to ensure consistency. In addition, we recommend more extensive testing be conducted on reporting. There may be potential date format issues. Please advise your customer service professional of any discovered issues. Some customers have reported a date entry popup issue when using Internet Explorer 11. This issue has been difficult to reproduce, on our end. It appears to only affect low use screens and the work around, at this time, is to not use Internet Explorer 11 or simply enter the required date into the text box manually.
Workflow Enhancement Linked with Business Day
On the Workflow Creation page (MMS_Manage_Workflow.aspx) on the create workflow tab, there is now the ability to select the business date that a workflow applies to.
By default, the business date is set to the current date. A column has been added to the Active Workflows grid displaying the Business Date. The Workflow start date and business dates are treated accordingly.
This change has been made to workflows allowing users to properly track the workflow business date. When creating a new workflow, users can associate a Business Date with the workflow.
Electronic Journal
Transaction Viewer (MMS_System_TransactionViewer.aspx) has been updated to include seconds in the time stamp used on the summary and detail view for transactions. This benefits customers who use 3rd party resources to track transactions. For example, some customers use the Electronic Journal (Transaction Viewer) to align security footage with POS transactions.
Ability to Hide Invalid/Unused Culture Codes
Previously, unused or invalid culture codes are showing on the following pages in the MMS application.
- Entity Manager (MMS_Admin_Entity.aspx)
- Culture and Localization (MMS_System_CultureSetup.aspx_
- Employee Management (MMS_System_Employees.aspx)
This caused confusion as users could select an invalid culture code. For example, selecting 'Chinese' instead of ‘Chinese (China)'. We have made a change so that the culture selector only displays languages where translations exist. If not the language is hidden.
Note: On the localization setup page, all languages are displayed.
Business Intelligence (BI) Cube Security for Non-Admin Users
Previously, non-admin cube users had the ability to modify and delete reports that were available in the “Public” folder. This had potential negative impact on other users accessing these reports. A new security permission "Reporting - OLAP Writer", for admin users was added, allowing admin users to create, modify, and share public reports. Users assigned the security permission "Reporting - OLAP Access" can view public reports and create private reports, but can no longer modify or share public reports.
Microsoft Edge Support
Extensive testing was conducted to verify Microsoft Edge compatibility. In addition, in order to support the use of Microsoft Edge, the report portal has been updated to ensure compatibility.
Scheduled Order Import - Prevents Duplicates
The Scheduled Orders import can create duplicate entries, which can be confusing. The import is updated to include a “SkipDuplicates” attribute (TRUE/FALSE). When the attribute is set to TRUE, the import will not create scheduled orders if they already exist for the provided store, vendor and date. When set to FALSE or if the attribute is not provided, duplicate scheduled orders are allowed.
2.2 MxConnect – Highlights
MxConnect is designed for use on a mobile device to facilitate constant access to real time data for forecasting, inventory counts, ordering, transfers, waste, and labor.
2016.1 MxConnect changes include enhancements to existing functionality as well as new modules to improve accountability. MxConnect users can use iOS 9 when accessing the mobile solution. In addition, they now have new customizable reporting options: Area Summary Report and Inventory Movement Report, as well as the ability to retain the search filter on the Transfer History page.
iOS9
The MxConnect mobile solution was extensively tested for compatibility with iOS9. No issues were found.
Area Summary Report
An Area Summary report benefitting above store level users has been created. The report provides a high level snapshot by area.
The report is security driven based upon the user’s specific access. If the user has access to more than one area, they will see an ‘All Areas’ option with a pull-down option to drill down to individual areas.
Like the Store Summary Report, users can use the View Manager to create variance instances of the report. This allows users to have views where they can filter all stores they have access to, or select specific areas. The views can then be exported to a CSV file for further analysis.
Inventory Movement Report
An Inventory Movement report has been created that provides critical stock information, by item, by store. This is a single store report with a custom date range selector. Users can create a custom reporting, using the view manager, in order to create variance instances by selecting which columns are visible.
The custom view can then be exported to a CSV file for further analysis.
New Reporting Date Selector
A new reporting date selector has been added to the Inventory Movement report so that users can select dates based on the traditional or fiscal calendar. Users have the option of defining reporting periods by Range, Week, or Month:
- Range (Default selection): Users select a start date, then end date. The dates between the start/end dates are highlighted displaying the inclusive dates.
- Week: Users select a date and the fiscal week is automatically highlighted
- Month: Users select a month and the fiscal month is automatically highlighted
Transfer History Retains Search Filter
On the Transfer History screen, when a user selects a date range and then navigates to a Transfer Detail screen, if they select the 'back' button, the date selection is now retained.
2.3 Reporting Data Store (RDS) – Highlights
The MacromatiX solution is a prolific collector of operational data. The Reporting Data Store (RDS) has been conceived in order to give users ownership and access to their own data. Users will have the ability to design and build their own reports and interrogate the database at will. Progress, for the feature, continues. The following fields have been added to the Reporting Data Store:
Tables:
- tbSalesItemCharacteristic
- tbCharacteristicValue
- tbCharacteristic
- tbGeographicCity
- tbValidation
- tbValidationDetail

However, note that when a transaction is processed (sale, adjustment) the actual cost will be re-evaluated and the estimation will not be used. For example in the case of a sale the cost will be re-evaluated based on service type and zone of the sale. The estimated cost is sometimes used for display purposes, for example when using mobile to process finished waste.
